Baptism

"I have called you by name, you are mine”  Isaiah 43:1

Baptism is very important to us at St John’s.  Jesus’ last command as he was taken back into heaven was to go into all the world, make disciples and baptise them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  This is the way we welcome new people into the family of God.

We would love to help you celebrate your special day; whether it’s your baby, an older child or even yourself we are waiting to help you plan this great occasion. Because St John’s is a small church we do our baptisms at a dedicated service on the first Sunday of each month at noon.  We welcome two families at a time.  As baptism is about being part of the worshipping community – the family of God, we encourage our families to the All Age service on the first Sunday of the Month. We welcome new families the month before the baptism and the month following the baptism we anoint the newly baptised with oil. If you are thinking about having a baptism service we are here to help. People enquiring about baptism should call Dee Wright on 01642 781646 (evenings only).

Funerals

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away” Revelation 21:4

The loss of a loved one is always a very difficult and sad time.  At St John’s we have a dedicated team who will help you to plan a fitting celebration of your loved one’s life.  We work closely with all the local funeral directors and will spend time with you to talk through all the options, and listen to your wishes to help you plan this important service. Our aim is to help those who have been bereaved to say goodbye appropriately and commit their loved one to God.

The usual way of organising a funeral is to contact your choice of funeral director who will then contact the team at St John’s.  At St. John’s we currently have 2 lay funeral ministers Dawn Robinson and Fran Wood. However, you are welcome to contact us directly here if you wish or call Venessa on: 07375 077699.
